![]() ![]() ![]() While it's busy struggling, use 2 tranq bombs on it. While it's sleeping, get up next to it and place either a shock trap down or a pitfall trap. Follow it back to its nest where it will go take a nap. Usually this is accompanied by little Skulls around their mininap icon. Originally posted by Deathwish40K:Wail on the monster until you see it start limping away. You'll generally be able to tell if a monster cannot be captured because the quest won't be a "Hunt" quest it will be a "Slay" quest, it's a fight to the death between man and monster! Monsters skull / limp at 15% HP most of the time, which is when you should really consider stopping attacking and start trying to capture.Įlder Dragons and some other monster types cannot be captured, because they cannot trigger the traps you place. You can capture monsters at 30% HP, but you typically won't be able to tell they're this low unless you're 300 IQ and count how many ammo pods fall off the monster or you're sub 50 IQ and use a HUD that displays monster health. This can be helpful if the monster in question is destroying you entirely and you want to end it early, especially if you've already used 2 out of 3 faints. Don't fret! You can "pre-tranq" a monster before popping a trap if you wish, hit them with your choice of tranq method and they'll temporarily be ready to be captured - as soon as they trip a trap in this state, they'll instantly enter a deep sleep and the mission will complete!Īlso, you can still capture a monster during a "hunt" quest and the mission will be successful, you don't have to kill the monster to complete the hunt. Some additional things to note include that monsters build up a resistance to stun and pitfall traps the more you use them, eventually pretty much freeing themselves before you can reliably use a tranq bomb on them. Tranq Bomb + Throwing Knife = Tranq Knife! Thus, you will likely never, ever use these at all. They're made by combining a Throwing Knife with a Tranq Bomb, but Throwing Knives cannot be purchased or stored, pretty much only found in the world by defeating Gajalaka. Tranq Bomb + Normal Ammo 1 = Tranq Ammo! You can also craft them (not recommended) by combining "Tranq Bomb" with "Normal Ammo 1" (you need to be equipped with a Light or Heavy Bowgun to reliably access your infinite stockpile of Normal Ammo 1) Tranq Ammo can be bought from the Provisions Stockpile (and other traders) for 45z each.Tranq Bombs are crafted by combining a "Sleep Herb" with a "Parashroom" which can - you guessed it - be found around the world or more reliably farmed at the Botanist. Both of these are found uncommonly around the world, but can also be grown in your Botanical Research area, like Thunderbugs. ![]() Pitfall Traps require "Net" which are made from combining an "Ivy" with a "Spider Web" item.Shock Traps require "Thunderbugs" which you can find in the world and also farm at the Botany Research area. You also get them from quest rewards in places like the arena. You can buy these for 200z from the Provisions Stockpile guy in Astera, as well as some other trader NPCs elsewhere. Traps require "Trap Tool" items to create. How do you acquire the necessary items you need? Well. This pretty much oversaturates you in monster materials and increases the amount of rewards you trigger in total, for more rolls at the good stuff - and you get bonus mission rewards for breaking the monster into paste. The monster is now yours to do with whatever you wish!.You don't have to hit the monsters head, anywhere will do Shoot the monster with 2 tranq ammo or tranq knives, or use 2 tranq bombs on it.Deploy a shock trap (faster) or a pitfall trap (slower) underneath it and wait for it to trip it.Prevent the monster from limping to its nest, or simply follow it to it.Note an enraged monster will not give any signs that it is near death, thus you won't see a skull or it limp until it has calmed down Keep beating up the monster until you see a skull on the minimap and it limps. ![]()
